On 12 October 2017, the Rev. Fred Nile MLC asked a question directed at the Minister for Mental Health, The Hon. Tanya Davis MP. The relevant part of that question reads:

Is the Minister aware of the comments in a UK newspaper of Professor Miroslav Djordjevic, who is the world’s leading genital reconstructive surgeon, that sex change reversal surgeries are on the rise? Is the Minister aware that many of the young people undergoing a so-called “transition” are pre-teens? Is the Minister satisfied that there has been fair and robust debate within the medical and mental health professions concerning the risks posed by pushing gender ideology onto young people?

The Hon. Sarah Mitchell, who represents the Minister for Mental Health in the Upper House in which Rev Nile sits, took the question on notice and indicated that she would forward it to The Hon. Tanya Davis MP. Rev Nile makes the following additional comments:

·        “I await for the Minister’s answer with keen anticipation.”

·        “This is an important issue not only to parents of children who are being exposed to the destructive and dangerous gender ideology, but to the broader community as well.”

·        “What we have been seeing, not just in Australia, but around the world as well, are the direct and logical consequences of liberalising sexual mores and deconstructing traditional notions of gender.”

·        “Moves to redefine marriage, family and gender have not resulted in the expansion of civil rights, but the destruction of the lives of children. This is not something that any reasonable person should tolerate.”
