Vale – His Royal Highness, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh

For immediate circulation It is with great sadness that I note and honour the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh at the age of 99 just two months short of his 100th birthday. Buckingham Palace has released a statement on behalf of the Queen: ‘It is with deep sorrow that her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.’

Prince Phillip was involved with over 780 different organisations and famously founded the Duke of Edinburgh Award which is dedicated to the self-improvement of youths in over 140 nations globally. His Highness was married to Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for 73 years and together they have reigned as the longest serving members of the British Royal Family in history. The Queen will now spend eight days in mourning for her beloved husband and Prince.

Rev Hon Fred Nile MLC, Federal President Christian Democratic Party has made the following statement:
“I express my deepest condolences for the passing of HRH Prince Phillip and especially to Queen Elizabeth II his loyal and faithful wife, she will miss him greatly.”

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has also offered his condolences:
“On behalf of the Australian people and the Australian Government, I extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Her Majesty and the Royal Family for the passing and the death of the Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. Your Majesty, here in Australia and indeed across the world, your Commonwealth family joins in your sorrow and your mourning and that of your family.”
