NSW Government must reject “vaccine passports”
July 15, 2021
The Christian Democratic Party is concerned that the New South Wales Government is leaving the door wide open to discriminate against people who choose not to take a Covid-19 vaccine.
CDP leader the Reverend Honourable Fred Nile said it was important that two classes of Australians were not created – the vaccinated and the unvaccinated.
“It is a matter of conscience for each individual to choose whether to take the Covid-19 vaccine.
However, we must not have a situation where some people are denied access to a restaurant, a movie or travel based on some form of ‘vaccine passport’.”
Rev Nile recently put on notice in Parliament the following question:
- Will the Minister rule out any vaccine passports in New South Wales?
- Will people who choose not to take the vaccine be protected from discrimination in their everyday lives?
Yesterday the Minister for Mental Health, Regional Youth and Women representing the Minister for Health and Medical Research in the Upper House, Bronnie Taylor responded with the following:
“NSW Health will be guided by a national approach in relation to vaccine issues”.
Rev Nile said this response gave no clarity to the citizens of NSW who are currently suffering under what will be at least a four-week lockdown.
“It is important that this pandemic and our public health response does not divide citizens.”
“Whatever people decide to choose either to vaccinate or not vaccinate, their decision should be respected. After all we are aware that Covid-19 vaccines are not mandatory”. Rev Nile said.
