In early 2021 I introduced the Public Health Amendment (Vaccination Compensation) Bill 2021. The purpose of my bill was to compensate workers that had been forced to vaccinate by their employer and had suffered serious adverse reactions as a result. NSW Parliament was suspended due to the Public Health Orders before my Amendment could be voted on. I further note that my bill was supported across multiple parties and both sides of politics.
Australian Minister for Health and Aged Care Greg Hunt has recently announced the No Fault COVID-19 Indemnity Scheme. The stated purpose of this scheme is to “reimburse people who suffer a moderate to significant impact following an adverse reaction to an approved COVID-19 vaccine”. Greg Hunt has said “Serious and life-threatening side effects are very rare, but it is important that we provide a safety net to support those affected”.
I am not interested in accreditation. I am interested in the welfare of the Australian people. On this basis, I am pleased that this scheme will take effect from the 6th of September, 2021 with retrospective claims being valid from 22nd of February, 2021.
However, mandatory vaccination remains an unconscionable policy of our State Government. We will continue to advocate on our Constituents behalf to wind back this draconian and unethical policy.
