Sandra Herrmann CDP Candidate for Bruce

Sandra has been married to Dennis and has lived in the Mt. Waverley area for 19 years; they have 3 teenage children. She has been involved in the field of education all her working life. As well as her paid employment, Sandra has taught voluntary Christian Religious Education and has been active in Prayer Groups for Schools, as well as other prayer networks.

Sandra has been teaching English as a second language (ESL) part- time in her school, and recently completed a Commonwealth funded volunteer training programme enabling her to tutor adult migrants in English. As a descendant of immigrants fleeing religious persecution in Germany, Sandra has an affinity with all those who have left their homelands and have embraced Australia as their new home.

Having thoroughly researched Australia’s Judeo-Christian heritage, Sandra believes that this heritage has been poorly taught to Australian children and their parents. She and others believe that the history books in most schools, libraries and universities have been stripped of the Christian character and values of the men and women who have helped to make Australia great, and that many of the inspirational stories are not being told. Sandra observed that from the Catholic Portuguese explorer de Quiros in 1606, declaring that Australia is the Great Southland of the Holy Spirit, to Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1810 improving the morals of the people through Bible teaching, to Presbyterian John Flynn who pioneered the Royal Flying Doctor Service in the early 1900’s, Australian history is rich with examples of people whose faith in God motivated their deeds for the good of others. She believes that Australians have been denied their inheritance due to the aggressive and unrelenting dismantling of the Judeo/Christian heritage which ought to be the right of every child. The world’s top selling book, the Holy Bible states in Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.”

Sandra has observed that the education system and publicly funded museums are now teaching evolution as fact, and that the Biblical concept of creation has been thrown out the window.

Sandra is intending to research the link between Australia having the highest rate of suicide in the world and children being taught that they are here by accident as a result of a” Big Bang,” and that they are descended from apes. As the Australian law and Constitution have been founded on the Bible it ought to be the right of every Australian child to know that they are “made in the image of God” according to Genesis 1:27.

It is obvious to Sandra that many noisy minority groups today are clamouring for their rights instead of talking about their responsibilities. The mantra “Equal Rights” is being used in an attempt to make anyone in disagreement feel guilty about sticking to what is right according to Australia’s Judeo-Christian foundational values. “Discrimination” is another word that is being wielded as a weapon. Sandra believes this word is being used to silence people who might otherwise have protested about making yet one more concession they feel uneasy about. “Multiculturalism“ is utilised in the same way, promoting the values and beliefs of other people groups instead of emphasizing the great privileges and responsibilities of citizenship and loyalty to Australia. Not so many years ago children in Australian schools recited this pledge every Monday morning at Assembly: “I love God and my country. I honour the flag. I serve the Queen, and cheerfully obey my parents, teachers and the law.” Sandra would like to see this brought back into our primary schools.
