The Christian Democratic Party is pleased to announce Andrew McGowan as their candidate for the seat of Coogee. Andrew grew up in Coogee and Randwick enjoying the beaches and playing many sports at club and representative level for Eastern Suburbs. He remembers with pride when, at age 12, his Coogee rugby union team returned undefeated after their four game tour of New Zealand’s South Island.
Andrew was educated at Marcellin College Randwick and qualified as a sheet metal worker and an industrial engineer. For the last 21 years he has been working in the fields of marketing and management, including running his own businesses.
Being brought up by his mum after the death of his dad, and then in recent years having his own family disintegrate, including the loss of contact with his grown daughter, Andrew understands, both from the perspective of a child, and also as a father, the impact that a marriage break-up can have on individuals, families and society. Andrew has a heart to make a difference in the Coogee electorate, and indeed to our nation as a whole, by initiating and supporting legislation that strengthens family and community values and by helping to keep our NSW government open, honest and transparent.
As a committed Christian Andrew is pleased to stand for the Christian Democratic Party as it has an enviable record of working peacefully with Upper House parties when they promote policies for the betterment of our state. Hence Reverend Nile being asked to Chair the Power Sell Off enquiry. CDP votes against laws that it believes are anti-Traditional Australian family values.
Why is this State Election so important? Sydney is the birthplace of the Commonwealth of Australia and like YOU I am sick and tired of BAD, dishonest government pandering to minorities and ignoring the majority of our society.
Andrew says “YOU can make a difference for the future of the Coogee electorate. YOUR vote counts towards protecting the lifestyle you enjoy, for future generations. Make your vote count in the new NSW government.”
Andrew wants to tackle issues like the needs in our Prince of Wales hospital. After talking with staff members at the hospital, Andrew says, “I have awesome respect for the staff there, but because the hospital is linked with South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra Area Health Services its ability to deliver locally is hampered by red tape and beaurocracy. I want to see a streamlining, where dollars are put into delivering the services and not into administration”. His association with Prince of Wales goes back to childhood with his mother being employed as the Chief Group Cashier for the POW, Prince Henry and Eastern Suburbs hospitals. Andrew remembers Prince Charles visiting the hospital and planting a tree with Jack the gardener.
Anti-social behaviour and lack of respect for our police, ambulance and emergency services staff is another issue Andrew wants to address. “I take my hat off to the men and women of the NSW Police Force who protect our society and do a job that I couldn’t do” he said. He believes our police not only need to be resourced properly, but also given the authority to enforce laws that are in place in our state. Where laws are insufficient to change those laws to increase policing power. Courts need to hand down sentences that fit the crime and bring justice for the victims.
Also Andrew wishes to see changes brought to the way our society deals with addictions, problems such as drug and alcohol abuse and gambling. “Our Welfare system just is not working” he says. “I believe in the principle that ‘if you give someone a fish you feed them for a day, but if you teach them how to fish you feed them for a lifetime’. By providing them with free food, clothing, etc. without accountability we are actually feeding their addictions.”
Andrew says “We have a fantastic heritage of freedom in this great country. We have values worth fighting for, values upon which our nation has been built. Over 102,000 men and women have given their lives in service to our nation to protect our freedom lets not dishonour their memories by allowing dishonest government to continue.” I offer my condolences and prayers to the family, girlfriend and mates of Sapper Jamie Ronald Larcombe the 23 Aussie digger killed in Afghanistan, 20 February 2011.
YOU can help to restore these values and standards of righteousness by voting 1 for Andrew McGowan and the Christian Democratic Party in the up-coming NSW election on Saturday 26th March 2011.
