2007 NEW STATE ELECTION RESULTS

Updated: Thursday, 05 April 2007

IMPROVED VOTE FOR FRED NILE

The Christian Democratic Party is elated with the NSW State Election results held on Saturday 24 March 2007.

The CDP primary Upper House vote has increased by over 30% in comparison with Rev Fred Nile's last re-election in 1999 and the 2003 State Election.

We congratulate Fred on this wonderful vote, the highest in 10 years, and anticipate that he will be re-elected.  Final distribution of preferences occur on April 10 at 11am. (date/time change)

State Director Phil Lamb said that he was delighted with the result.  "The campaign was lifted by the promotion of the Upper House Team of not only Rev Fred Nile, but the other quality team candidates of Gary Raymond and Brian Watters." Phil said.  "Our grass-roots support base has also  strengthened around NSW over the last few years - demonstrated by the large turn-out of booth workers handing our CDP How To Votes on election day."

In a tour of more than 80 booths of the Sydney North and Central Coast areas, Rev Dr Gordon Moyes reported that there was only one booth un-manned by CDP.  He said "This is the highest turn-out of booth workers I have ever seen in the history of CDP."

Deputy Liberal Leader Barry O'Farrell said to Phil Lamb while touring northern suburbs booths, "You have more people on the Booths than the Labor party in this whole area."

This year, a record number of 57 lower house Candidates stood for election - the highest in the history of CDP.  This has also led to the increased flow-on effect in the Upper House.

The lower house vote across the state has increased by 0.8% over 2003, which equates to a gigantic 47% increase in support for our Lower House Candidates.

"A key factor in the increased support for both Upper and Lower House Candidates' votes was the issue brought forward by the Campaign Committee to go public on the 10 year Muslim moratorium. There has been a flood of support since we went public on this issue.  This key policy issue is one that will continue to be addressed in the future months leading up to the Federal election." Lamb said.

'THANK YOU' TO VOLUNTEERS

On behalf of the State Management Committee, I would like to say a huge 'thank you' to the many thousands of volunteers that worked tirelessly to achieve the spectacular result for the Christian Democratic Party on election day Saturday 24 March. It is impossible to thank each person personally, but we are very aware that we had a fabulous team verging on 10,000 workers who offered their services in so many ways to help re-elect Rev Fred Nile with an increase vote of 4% - a 30% increase over the previous two State Elections.

Our party is seeing first hand that resurgence of support.  We thank the Electorate Branches, booth workers, poster displayers, letter box droppers, booth organisers, church representatives, town and electorate organisers, and our 17 Regional Organisers for their outstanding efforts, which looking back, we can say "it was worth it".

Looking ahead to the next four years, the Christian Democratic Party is well positioned with our two Upper House Members Fred Nile and Gordon Moyes, to inform the Christian community of the slightest move by the Greens Party to introduce anti-Christian, anti-family legislation.

Together we thank God for His blessing on the outcome, and to see that Rev Fred Nile will work hard on your behalf to be, with Gordon Moyes, a strong Christian voice in the NSW Parliament.
