Rev Nile joins Colleague in Supporting Environmental Protections
Saturday, 12th November 2011
The Rev Hon Fred Nile MLC, Leader of the Christian Democratic Party, has joined party colleague, the Hon Paul Green, in supporting new environmental protections with the passage of the 'Environment Legislation Amendment Bill 2011' in the NSW Parliament.
"I support the remarks of my colleague the Hon. Paul Green who has already spoken on the Protection of the Environment Legislation Amendment Bill 2011. The Christian Democratic Party supports the bill and congratulates the Government on responding to the serious events that occurred in the Orica plant disaster. We are pleased that the Government has responded to the recommendations of the O'Reilly review. It is very important that we have this now urgent advisory system to advise the relevant authorities of any accidental exposure to chemicals and other items, particularly by the police, Fire and Rescue NSW, the State Emergency Service and other agencies", said Rev Fred Nile.
"I am concerned for the residents of Stockton and Mayfield. As members know, in the late 1950s and 1960s I lived in Mayfield with my wife. We were conscious then of a great deal of pollution. My wife often complained about it when she had nappies on the clothesline and she would show me visible oil droppings on the nappies. That was in the environment because we lived near a big steel plant. It is a high priority to ensure adequate protection for the residents of Mayfield and Stockton. They should not be vulnerable. They should receive the fullest protection they can through our legislation. The Christian Democratic Party supports the bill", Rev Nile stated.
