MEDIA RELEASE

Nudity Not On

Thursday, 5th March 2009

The Rev Fred Nile, Leader of the Christian Democratic Party, has given notice that he will be introducing legislation in the NSW Parliament to prohibit individuals exposing themselves in public.

The ‘Summary Offences and Local Government Legislation Amendment (Prohibition of Nudity in Public Places) Bill 2009 seeks amend both the Summary Offences Act 1988 and the Local Government Act 1993 to prevent individuals exposing themselves in all public places, including public beaches.

“The legislation seeks to protect the community from adult individuals deliberately exposing themselves in public. Needless to say, public places are for public. Mums and Dads, Children and Seniors all have a right to equally enjoy these areas without being made feel unduly uncomfortable or offended because an individual feels the need to expose themselves”, said Rev Fred Nile.

“It matters little whether the perpetrator is a weathered old man seeking a reaction or a young woman wanting to add melanoma to sensitive areas of her body, there is no excuse for the thoughtlessness of indecent exposure. If individuals feel the need to strip off, they can do so in the privacy of their own home, private property or seek out the nominated areas already allocated by Local Councils,” Rev Nile stated.
