Rev Fred Nile States Federal Report Supports his Bills on Tobacco and Alcohol

Wednesday 9th April 2008

The Rev Fred Nile, Leader of the Christian Democratic Party, has stated that today’s Federal Government Report confirming the massive $56 billion community cost of tobacco, alcohol and illegal drugs, fully justifies the need for his new Upper House Bills in the NSW Parliament.

“My Bills will dramatically reduce the economic, health and social damage caused by alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs”, said Rev Fred Nile.

“I have followed up my original successful Bills to prohibit Tobacco advertising and smoking in public places with Bills that –

  • Prohibit Alcohol advertising - Alcoholic Beverages Advertising Prohibition Bill 2008
  • Increase the legal drinking age from 18 to 21 - Liquor Amendment (Drinking Age) Bill 2008
  • Prohibit smoking in cars - Smoke-free Environment Amendment (Motor Vehicle Prohibition) Bill 2008
  • Provide warning labels on Alcohol -  Liquor Amendment (Health Warning for Pregnant Women) Bill 2008
  • Ban the display of Tobacco products - Public Health Amendment (Display of Tobacco Products) Bill 2008
  • Introduce compulsory drug testing for students - Education Amendment (Random Drug Testing of Students) Bill 208

Fred Nile is a relentless crusader on the harmfulness of tobacco, alcohol and illegal drugs because of his deep concern for the youth of our nation. From the first day of his election to Parliament in 1981, he has campaigned against these vested interests in society on behalf of the people of NSW.
