NSW GOVERNMENT ACCEPTS 43 OUT OF 45

RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE FRED NILE INQUIRY INTO

THE ROYAL NORTH SHORE HOSPITAL

The Rev Hon Fred Nile MLC, Chairman of the NSW Joint Select Committee into the Royal North Shore Hospital, said he was very pleased that the NSW Government has adopted 43 Recommendations from the total of 45 Recommendations in its RNSH Report, tabled on the 20th December 2007.

The other two Recommendations have actually been taken up by the Government, eg the Committee Recommendation a further Inquiry if necessary following the Coroner’s Inquiry into the tragic death of Vanessa Anderson.

The Coroner recommended an Inquiry so the Government established a Special Commission of Inquiry into NSW Hospitals.

The remaining Recommendation related to a National Review of the Australian Triage legislation to ensure they are appropriate.

This Recommendation (Number 11), has been referred by the NSW Government to the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for further expert consideration.

“I congratulate the NSW Government on allocating a record 128 nursing graduates who commenced work at RNSH on 14th January, 2008, which will relieve the pressure on nursing staff and improve patient care.

“I thank all Committee Members, patients and RNSH staff who cooperated with the Committee’s Hearings, especially Jana Horska, husband Mark Dreyer and the parents of Vanessa, Warren and Michelle Anderson” said Reverend Fred Nile.
