RUDD’S VICTORY! HOWARD’S DEFEAT!
26th November 2007
Written by The Rev Hon Fred Nile MLC
The polls all through 2007, since Kevin Rudd became Opposition Leader, predicted an ALP victory. The polls, which showed 55% to 45% came true on Election Day 24th November, 2007.
The ALP victory has been more extensive than even the polls predicted with the ALP winning possibly 90 Federal Seats to the Coalition’s 48 seats with a 6% swing to the ALP.
Kevin Rudd, the ALP Leader, is now the new Australian Prime Minister, in place of long-serving John Howard, who has lost his own Seat of Bennalong to Maxine McKew of the ALP.
The Liberals experienced another blow when Deputy Leader Peter Costello said he would not take John Howard’s place, but retire in due course. There will now be a ballot between front-runner Malcolm Turnbull, Andrew Robb, Brendan Nelson and Tony Abbott.
We need to pray that the Christian Community, who has played a major role in
Kevin Rudd’s victory when they deserted John Howard, will not be disappointed
during the next three years of a Rudd-Gillard ALP Government.
Paul Green’s Senate Results.
The 70% of Senate votes that have been counted show that the Christian Democratic Party came fourth out of all the political parties standing for the Senate in NSW – 1st ALP, 2nd Coalition, 3rd Greens, 4th CDP and 5th DLP.
CDP received three times more votes than the Family First Party (FFP), Fishing Party, and double the Australian Democrats, Pauline Hanson, Climate Change Party and Shooters Party vote.
We thank all our CDP members, supporters and helpers for a good result in difficult circumstances, as the vote polarised between the Coalition and the ALP, with a reduced vote for minor parties.
We also thank Paul Green and Paul’s wife Michelle, and their children, for a
strenuous Senate Campaign across NSW towns and suburbs.
Our 44 CDP House of Representatives’ Candidates did very well with a number getting over 1,500 votes – Steven Chavura (Banks) 2547; Scott Deakes (Throsby) 2087; Chris Svolos (Barton) 1676; Deborah Lions (Cowper) 1656; Nolene Norsworthy (Cunningham) 1742; John Vanderjagt (Hughes) 1998; Geoff Peet (Hume) 1511; Andrew Green (Lindsay) 1684; Sam Baissari (Parramatta) 1539; Jason Callander (Prospect) 1626; Alex Sharah (Reid) 1837.
We thank God for other CDP Candidates who stood in Queensland (Linda Brice);
Victoria (Ewan McDonald; Western Australia (Gerard Goiran); South Australia
(Bruno Colangelo) and
for House of Representative Seats under difficult circumstances.
Our next NSW CDP Election Campaign will be in September, 2008 with an aim to have more CDP Candidates elected to Local Government Councils.
