New President of the Fellowship of Congregational Churches

The Revesby Congregational Church, 82 The River Road, Revesby, was selected for the induction, at the Annual Assembly on Friday 28 September 2007, of the new President of the Australian Fellowship of Congregational Churches, following the retirement of Rev Con Despinidic, who is Chairman of the School Council of St Phillip's Christian College, Cessnock.

In a service commencing at 7.30pm, Rev Dr Alan Harley, Pastor of the Leichhardt Congregational Church and Director of the City School of the Bible, inducted as President Rev the Hon Fred Nile LTh ED MLC.

Reverend Nile was ordained as a Congregational Minister at Bexley in 1964. He has served in the NSW Legislative Council for more than 25 years, and he is the National and NSW President of the Christian Democratic Party.

"I am very pleased to be honoured by the Congregational Churches of Australia as I became a Christian in 1951 at the Revesby Congregational Church." said Reverend Nile. "I owe the Church a great deal - that decision for Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour changed the whole direction of my life."

"I intend with the help of The Lord to build on the achievements of my predecessor Rev Con Despinidic, who was very focused on building the Church through personal development of individuals and through genuine conversions to Christian faith."

"Rev Con Despinidic never encouraged any attempt to win parishioners from other denominations. I endorse the view that we are not competing with other denominations for a finite number of Christians. God has given us the challenge of building the Fellowship of Congregational Churches by bringing more Australians to the love of the Lord Jesus Christ."
