Christians pleased with Bishop

The Christian Democratic Party has applauded a report on the impact of drugs upon children by the Families and Human Sevices Committee the Federal Parliament.

Inquiry head the Hon Bronwyn Bishop has announced a range of proposals based on zero tolerance.

"The Christian Democratic Party has always stood for zero tolerance of drugs," said CDP Parliamentary Leader Reverend Fred Nile. "Bronwyn Bishop's committee is attempting to restore sanity to the governmental approach to drug prevention."

Christian Democratic Party Senate team leader in NSW, Pastor Paul Green is the father of six children and holds a degree in nursing. "The CDP believes in protecting children, and the interests of children must be paramount where one or more parent is trapped by illegal drugs."

CDP leaders are pleased with Hon Bronwyn Bishop's opposition to the continuing operation of the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre ("Shooting Gallery") at 66 Darlinghurst Road, Kings Cross.

At the beginning of September the NSW Government issued a four-year $10m contract for the Synod of the Uniting Church to continue running the "Shooting Gallery".

CDP leader Reverend the Hon Fred Nile MLC and CDP Senate team leader Pastor Paul Green jointly condemned the decision, asking whether the Uniting Church is "taking blood money for promoting drug slavery."

The late Pope John Paul banned Catholic orders from taking part in the injecting room, saying ""If you assist a person to inject a harmful substance you are committing a sinful act."

"Illegal drugs are illegal drugs. No exceptions should be made," said Reverend Nile. "The cost of the "shooting gallery" should be redirected to helping addicts turn away from the dangerous chemicals which in many cases have destroyed their careers and are also destroying their families."

Fred Nile and Paul Green are confident that Uniting Church parishioners do not support their Synod's participation in the supply of illegal drugs. "We call on Uniting Church parishes to withold their financial support until the Synod turns its back on this unChristian activity."

Paul Green concluded: "Drug addicts deserve Christian compassion. They do not deserve continuing exposure to the malign substances which are destroying them. Don’t get your kicks at number sixty-six."

NSW Parliamentarian for fifteen years and campaigner against illegal drugs Hon Elaine Nile will join Paul Green on the CDP Senate ticket.
