Fraudulent letter attempts to deceive churches
A fraudulent letter purporting to have been written by Reverend the Hon Fred Nile MLC has been distributed to an unknown number of Churches in New South Wales.
The apparent aim of the letter is to detract from the appointment of Reverend Nile one week ago as Assistant Deputy President of the Legislative Council. At the time, Reverend Nile dismissed as "jealous whingeing" an attack upon his appointment by Lee Rhiannon MLC of the Greens.
"I have no evidence that the Greens are involved in this unkind attempt to deceive the clergy, elders and congregations of an unknown number of Churches. What I can say is that individuals hostile to my long-term stands on important issues seem to recognize no limits in their deceitful practices."
"I am proud to accept the appointment as Assistant Deputy President, just as I am proud to be the longest serving current member of Australia’s first House of Parliament," said Reverend Nile, who first entered the Legislative Council on 19 September 1981.
"Lee Rhiannon’s false claim that the Government is trying to buy my vote reflects the ignorant bitterness of the Greens," said Reverend Fred Nile. "The Government has made this appointment taking into account my exemplary non-partisan committee service, including as Temporary Chair of Committees. "
Reverend Nile concluded: "Christian Democratic Party parliamentarians each assess all legislation on its merits. My appointment will make no difference to the voting patterns, and this is obvious to everyone in Parliament other than the Greens."
