Vietnam Memorial Day Supported By Rev Fred Nile
The Rev Fred Nile MLC, Leader of the Christian Democratic Party, has added his thanks and appreciation on the Vietnam Memorial Day, to the Australian Veterans of the Vietnam War, especially those who took part in the Battle of Long Tan.
The Battle of Long Tan, which should rightly be honoured on its 40th Anniversary, was fought over a 28 day period in May and June, 1966, against a vastly superior 2,500 North Vietnamese Regiment and Viet Cong.
These Long Tan veterans should not have to beg for bravery awards but receive them immediately from the Australian Government.
It is still a matter of shame that our Servicemen, returning from Vietnam, were insulted by pro Communist supporters in Sydney.
The Prime Minister, John Howard, is to be congratulated for his full apology on behalf of the Australian people to our Vietnam Veterans who fought in Vietnam to protect the freedom of the people from a North Vietnamese Communist dictatorship.
We especially honour the 18 young Australians, mainly National Servicemen, who gave their lives in the Battle of Long Tan. This battle was a great Australian victory against a vastly superior force of 2,500.
