Smoking Committee Gets Smoke In Its Eyes
The Rev Fred Nile, Leader of the Christian Democratic Party and Member of the NSW Parliament’s Joint Select Committee on Tobacco Smoking, was very disappointed at the Committee’s final key Recommendations in their Report to Parliament.
Mr Nile has released copies of his Dissenting Statement, which was included in the final Committee Report (Page 177). A copy of Mr Nile’s Dissenting Statement is attached.
“I believe the Committee missed an important opportunity to give leadership on this major health issue which costs thousands of lives and billions of dollars.
“I will continue my efforts to prohibit smoking in cars and especially to protect passengers, particularly children, and to prohibit the public display of attractive cigarette packet displays in shopping centres and retail shops.
“I strongly oppose the new, weak proposal to include ceilings and three walls as an ‘open space’ for smoking. An open space cannot have a ceiling!” said the Rev Hon Fred Nile MLC, ‘no smoking campaigner’.
