Rev Dr Ross Clifford
Christian Democratic Party's No. 2 Candidate
2003 NSW State Election - Legislative Council (Upper House)

Ross Clifford is married to Beverley (28 years) and has two children – Briony and Joel. Ross is the Principal of Morling College, the Baptist Bible and Theological College of NSW. He is the former pastor of Gymea and Windsor Baptist churches. He has served as President of the NSW Council of Churches (Evangelical Churches) and Chairman of SLM (Chaplains in sport). He has written or co-authored eight books including Leading Lawyers’ Case for the Resurrection. Ross loves to preach the Word of God. He speaks at many conferences across the country and overseas and is on a number of Ethics and Evangelism committees and consultation groups. His ministry focuses on sharing and defending Christian values and the Christian worldview.

Before entering the Christian ministry Ross was a solicitor in NSW and a solicitor and barrister in the Northern Territory. He continues to take a strong interest in legal and justice issues. He is active in the media, having his own Sunday night program on 2CH and is frequently asked for media comments or editorials.

If elected to the Legislative Council, Ross would have a particular concern in the following areas:

  • Legislative fairness for the significant Christian community service industry whether it be schooling, tertiary education or aged care.

  • Protection of free speech on religious issues. Current Law Reform reports have advocated the restriction of religious comment.

  • Gambling and the care of the environment.

  • The State is finding itself in the dubious situation of determining when life begins, if life can be experimented on, when life ends. Its ethical approach is utilitarian. These are not matters to be decided by compromise or opinion polls.

  • The protection of Christian values.
